On Saturday the 11th, a friend and I went to a pair of talk shows featuring voice actors Taniyama Kishou and Morikubo Showtaro. In between the shows, we wanted a snack, and my friend suggested Meet Fresh Shenyuishen, which was a short walk away, in the basement of a department store, Marrionnier Gate Ginza 2.
She'd attempted to explain the desserts to me, but I didn't quite get it until I saw the menu, like Japanese desserts with adzuki beans and mochi, but Taiwanese, featuring tofu, fruit, starches and toppings. I was a little ambitious and ordered both a dessert and a purple sweet potato soy milk milkshake, which proved to be a bit much food.
The milkshake was precisely as advertised: it was like drinking a roasted purple sweet potato. This is a both a plus ... and a minus. The taste was fantastic, nothing artificial going on, but who wants to drink a roasted potato? Not me. I found myself just craving the actual potato. The dessert was more to my liking: sweet tofu topped with strawberries, strawberry sauce, tapioca pearls and some boiled peanuts. Sweet, but not overly so, filling but not heavy.
I'd like to try more of their desserts, so hopefully I'll get to go back.
