In my last post, I mentioned that I had plans for dessert after lunch in Namba (Osaka). And after that disappointing lunch, I really needed the pick-me-up. Thankfully, Tonton Cafe didn't disappoint! I'd found it on Google maps, as it was halfway between the subway station and the Umeda Arts Theater where I'd be seeing Chess. Their Instagram was full of cute desserts, so I decided I'd stop by before the play.
Once again the sign wasn't placed in such as a way as to be easy to see going one direction, but I spotted it when I retraced my steps. Tonton is up on the 3rd floor of a building with a coffee shop on the first floor, and a few other businesses (one per floor, for the most part). The elevator opens practically into the cafe, which was warm and cozy, with three tables and room for about 5 or 6 at the counter. The music was good as well -- sounded like Miwa (a female Japanese singer) live acoustic, though I can't swear to that.
And there were cute piggies everywhere. Including on the serving ware and menu, all along the top of the counter, the window sill, and even decorating the food! I really wish I'd known of this place when I was last in Osaka, because the Christmas parfaits look too cute. I ordered the special parfait drink set, which was a strawberry parfait and hot tea. The staffer (just one person) put it together by hand after serving the two women who ordered before me. The parfait was cute and tasty, a great combo! Hard to go wrong with Japanese strawberries. There were lots of layers (custard, cake, cornflakes, berries) and textures, and the piggie with heart were a nice touch.
The cafe has coffee and tea drinks, plus desserts (the special dessert this time was strawberry cake). It's a small menu, but I imagine everything would be good!
